First Harvest
Yesterday we had our first harvest of the year, slightly later than we originally hoped but it was still a very exciting feeling. The first share consisted of winter greens, multicoloured chard, two types of lettuce, kohlrabi, beetroot, parsley, rocket, oregano and two types of radish. People getting a half share got the same but in smaller quantities however they got one type of lettuce as it’s hard to divide lettuces in two !
As usual we had a work morning from 10am so Susan worked hard early in the morning to harvest everything so that when we turned up it was all laid out neatly in boxes with a list of how much of each we should take. Once we had finished weeding onions in some rare sunshine those of us who had chosen Tuesday as our share pickup day were able to select our vegs and put them in whatever box or bags we had brought to carry them home in.
The first share laid out for collectionIt has been a bit of a struggle to get to this point as the weather has been extremely unusual with far more than the normal rain fall and far less sunshine than we would expect at this time of year which has meant that many plants have struggled to grow and those that have are being slower than normal, however things are getting there slowly and we should have new potatoes and other vegs ready to pick in the next few weeks.
If you are coming to the farm to collect your share Tuesday collection is until 7pm to allow people to pick up on the way home from work and Saturday pickup is from 10am till 2pm to match up with the work morning.
